Fresh off the back of her latest single release, 'Before', indie-pop old soul Ash Lune has curated us an EXCLUSIVE playlist, a selection of haunting, bristling, and inspiring tracks that helped feed into the creative process behind her upcoming EP Broken Science Experiments.
Says Lune:
This Ep is very very special to me. It’s been the most honest and cohesive (I hope) project I’ve worked on (so far). However, this is only the beginning.
This playlist starts with ‘Your Ex Lover is Dead’ because this song found me at a time I wasn’t even sure I was going to be able to write an EP. I was on my way back home in the middle of the night after I’d quit my job and I was so scared of where my life was going. There was so much going on in my brain, I didn’t even pay attention to the first half of the song. Then my brain had somehow gone quiet and all I heard was “Live through this and you won’t look back”. That line repeats itself a couple of times in the bridge. I took that as a sign , saved the song and here we are. An EP ready to go.
The playlist also has some 50’s and early 60’s kinda songs. Before I wrote sleepwalk I went through a whole week of just listening to old music from the 50s and 60s. Then when I walked into the studio, I knew I only wanted to have fun and make an old song. Of course, my manager encouraged me to make whatever I wanted to and so Sleepwalk was born.
This EP was influenced by some of the best music I’ve ever heard in my life. Therefore this playlist has music from artists like Bon Iver, Death Cab for Cutie, Lana Del Rey, Iron & Wine etc.
The EP ends with one of my favourite classical pieces because almost every song on this EP started off as a classical piano piece. You can hear that in Panic At The Party because I left a small section of the piece in the song.
At 24 years of age, Lune has always been an avid listener, a quiet student of the modern classics, taking her cue from artists like Two Door Cinema Club, Avril Lavigne, Iron & Wine, and Bon Iver. An old soul, with her serene, verdant, piano-led pop songs, Ash Lune wants to take listeners back to a simpler time of being, an era of plaintive love songs and aching hearts, of deftly written paeans to heartbreak and classicist, deeply-felt balladry. And that’s exactly what we can expect to hear on Broken Science Experiments, her debut six track EP that arrives in the world on February 11th, 2022. Put the date in your diaries folks, and check out the tracklist below:
