Safia at the Enmore Theatre, Saturday 14th September 2019
Turning up to see Safia, right on show time, and the packed out Enmore Theatre was heaving with anticipation.
Charismatic front man, Ben Woolner eased us into the show with a stunning piano intro, bathed in a spotlight, not unlike some of the piano greats like James Blake.
The dreamy and tension building piano didn't last long, however as the other band members joined him onstage for an incredibly explosive show opening.
Safia have come a long way from the Canberra trio who won the Groovin' the Moo competition back in 2012. The show delivered was worthy of a stadium for the tech setup that accompanied. Mesmerising visuals worked perfectly with detailed lighting and spot on sound.
The highlights of the night for me were "Listen to Soul, Listen to Blues", "Cellophane Rainbow" and of course the room almost exploded when they played "Embracing Me".
Ben Woolner, Michael Bell and Harry Sayers are at the height of their musical powers and the crowd were there to support their epic musical vision.
The entire set was packed with familiar tunes and it feels like fans are definitely ready for Safia to deliver some new material. When this will be, who knows but if their last two albums are anything to go by, we can expect epic electro anthems with rousing lyrics and heart pounding beats.
